SHOE REVIEWS

KICKERS

Very well designed shoes with good wide fitting so very comfortable. Heal has slope which makes walking a pleasure. Rubber is very hard wearing so these shoes last a long time. Often coloured so can't use normal polish. The heals though and the mid-sole section do have holes within them and as the shoes wear then these holes become apparent. They still last a long time with regular wear. 9/10

FREEDOM TRAIL LOWLAND BOOTS.

Made of synthetic material. Uppers are very water proof. Rubber on soles are too soft and combined with holes designed under the soles they just wear too quickly. I used these also for cycling and the soles became damaged very quickly due to the large holes in them for comfort.

The rubber cracks badly done the heal section and is too thin on the sole section and rubber is not hard enough for long term wear. 2/10

SLAZENGER WAVE SANDAL

Very good sandals. Easy to get on and off due to Velcro straps. Very good for beach and holidays and overall walking in. Very tough soles. Nice wide fit. 8/10

KARRIMOR TRAVALLER SUPA 2 DK GREY

Very comfatable shoes with rubber toe protector. Not waterproof. Very hard wearing sole only spoilt by foam layer above sole that protudes into centre of sole. Thus hard pebbles damage this soft foam on sole of shoe. Very good looking shoes with swede on upper shoe and grey matarial underneath it. Good for cycling and walking in town. Designed in UK but unfortunetly made in China. If you walk over on insides of shoe like I do the soft foam around shoe compressors easily and then shoe gapes at heel on the inside. 5/10

MEINDL PFLEGE 11 - have memory foam technology insert that can be removed once worn out. Waterproof leather with Gortex sock inside so waterproof. Add Nikwax to keep leather looking best. Very wide and comfy shoe - can drive in these walking shoes. Nice designed sole to keep big toe straight and provide comfort. 9/10

BEER REVIEWS

Unlike German Beer that can only have 4 ingredients by law. English beer is often flavoured with coriander, licquorich and other spices and herbs. Originally the Eqyptians made beer outdoors and let the yeast in the air naturally fement the brew. The English discovered a trick called Malting by heating the seeds it would trick them into germinating thus producing more sugar and speeding up the brewing time. In the old days steam engines were used to lift the sacks of barley etc up to the top of the building. The heated water from the steam engine would pass through heat exchanges in the top of the building to start the brewing process and the water then re-cycled when cold back into the engine at base of brewery. The Calsbe rg brewery in Northampton had to have the river nene changed so it could be located where it is. Beer is called Beer as originally made from Berries. The German word Bier in English is something used to burry a coffin. Lager is a corruption of the word Lader and just means stored in a cool place.

The English have Porters made originally for building workers, Stouts another dark beer. Then we have Bitters, Ales, Beer, India Pale Ales - made to survive journey to India. It was Dutch immigrants in 5th century that brough the hops to England. Origannly the English drank Mead - fermented apples and honey. In the old days becase of poor water even children drank beer and every village had a brewary and Pubs - a house where the public could drink alchohol legally. Some pubs had rifle ranges - these were banned not because of bullets flying but becase of gambling problems - same as most card games - banned due to gambling - we know theri names but not how they were played.
